Richard Gadson

Who are you?

My name is Richard Gadson and I am 23 years old. I was born and raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, a.k.a the "City of Brotherly Love"

What do you do?

I am a professional motorcycle drag racer. I also work at Cooper Performance, a performance shop where we build some of the fastest race bikes in the country. Check us out at cooperperformance.com

Where do you do it?

I race the ADRL US DRAGS, AMA DRAGBIKE, and MIROCK SUPERBIKE series. These sanctions mostly hold events in the central to eastern United States

When do you do it?

I usually start testing for an up and coming season in February. We would prefer to start testing in January, but building a new bike takes time and we never seem to make that deadline! Our season usually starts in March and ends in November. Any weekend that we are not at a national event, I usually spend at track rentals testing

Why do you do it?

I do it for a number of reasons…I guess you can say it's "in my blood"!
My late grandfather, Richard "Suicide" Gadson was a stunt rider in the 60's and 70's. My late father, Emory "Skip" Gadson was one of the best street racers on the east coast (they should have made "Biker Boyz" about him)!

My uncle, 9 time drag racing champion and superstar factory Kawasaki rider Rickey Gadson, took me under his wing and carried me all over to the races when I was a kid. I loved it from day one and I wanted to carry on our family name in the motorcycle industry. I spent years observing and listening, and my uncle gave me my first chance when I was 15 years old.

The first bike I ever took down the 1/4 mile was a 2001 Kawasaki ZX-6R. My first pass was an 11.28@128 mph…I was hooked!

Of course, another reason I race if for the thrill!!! We may only go in a straight line, but anyone who thinks accelerating to 200+ mph in just 6 seconds is for punks…I welcome them to come try it!

How do you do it?

As quick and fast as I possibly can! Oh, and I forgot.... SAFELY as well!
Thanks to Shift Racing, I get to look cool doing it too!
